Sierra Leone Electricity & Water Regulatory Commission

7th October 2019

The Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission (SLEWRC) wishes to inform the

general public that there has been no increase in the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority

(EDSA) tariffs contrary to news making rounds that there has been a 25% increase in the current

tariffs. It should be noted that the Commission is the only government agency mandated by law to

review and approve tariffs for electricity and water services as per the provisions of section 45 of the

SLEWRC Act of 2011.

In August this year, EDSA made an application to the Commission for a review of its current tariff to

cover its energy cost and operation expenses. In light of this, the Commission is currently reviewing

the application submitted by EDSA.

A public hearing will be organized by the Commission during which EDSA shall make a presentation

of its case to the general public, consumer interest groups and other stakeholders. The date and

venue for hearing shall be communicated to the general public shortly.

It is important to note that contributions from these groups and the general public would be

considered in the decision of the Commission during the review of EDSA’s proposal in the tariff

approval process; therefore public participation is key.

The outcome of the review and approval process would then be communicated through a public

notice and also gazetted.
