The Water and Energy Ministries receive EWRC’s landmark 2019 Annual Report

The Electricity and Water Commission (EWRC) made history on Monday 3rd and Wednesday 5th August, 2020 by presenting its first ever Annual Report since the inception of its operations in 2015. Its 2019 Annual Report was presented to the Minister of Water Resources, Hon. Phillip K Lansana and the Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, respectively
In handing over the report to the ministers, the Chairman of the Commission Mr. Mohamed B. D. Seisay thanked the two ministers and donor partners like the MCCU, DfID and UNOPS for their continued support of the work of Commission. He went on to state that the formal ceremony was a statutory requirement as set out in section 28 of the SLEWRC Act of 2011. “As a government agency, we are cognizant of His Excellency President Maada Bio’s promises to the people of Sierra Leone especially in the Electricity and Water Sectors and the need for performance and accountability of all government MDA’s. It is on this basis that we hope that this report provide answers to questions on the Commission’s mandate, history and summary of our achievements in the past year’’, he went on.
In his remarks, the Minster of Water Resources commended the Commission for the full exercise of its functions including the presentation of the transparent manner in which it carries out its mandate. He further stated that his ministry considers the work of the Commission to be important especially in the area of tariff regulations, complaints and ensuring quality service for all consumers. He urged the Commission to continue implementing its mandate on improving the provision of both water and electricity services so as to help realize President Bio’s policy objectives.
Receiving the report, the Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, commended the efforts of the Commission and highlighted that this is the first time an annual report has been submitted by the Commission to the Ministry. He explained that the Ministry will have had a preliminary review of the report and will provide their reactions to the Commission. “I want to acknowledge the tremendous support you’ve given to us. There is no way we can run this sector, challenging as it is, without your support,” remarked the Energy Minister.
EWRC’s Director General, Mr. Emmanuel Mannah, in his vote of thanks to the Ministers reminded them of the stipulation of section 28 (2) of the SLEWRC Act 2011 which states the need to lay the said report before Parliament within thirty days of receipt.
