Sierra Leone Electricity & Water Regulatory Commission

The Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission, with support from the Millennium Challenge Corporation under the Threshold Program for Sierra Leone, have been developing regulations aimed at improving access and efficient delivery of electricity and water services.

These regulations are aimed at developing a culture wherein the entities (as listed below) are mandated to improve the quality of supply of water and electricity services. This will essentially improve the culture of compliance for all the related entities engaged in the business of supplying water and Electricity in the Country.

The EWRC will therefore visit various locations in the country to mainly consult with the consuming public and other relevant stakeholders to incorporate their views in the final draft before laying in Parliament.

The Public Consultation will be held as follows:

Kono consultations Wednesday, 13th March 2019
Kabala consultations Thursday 14th March 2019
Makeni consultations Friday, 15th March 2019
Kenema consultations Monday, 25th March 2019
Bo consultations Tuesday, 26th March 2019
Moyamba consultations Wednesday, 27th March 2019
Waterloo consultations Thursday, 28th March 2019
Port Loko consultations Friday, 29th March 2019
Freetown consultations Tuesday, 2nd April, 2019

The regulations will mainly target the following entities or players:

  1. Electricity
  2. ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION AND SUPPLY AUTHORITY (EDSA)
  3. ELECTRCITY GENERATION AND TRANSMISSION COMPANY (EGTC)
  4. OTHER INDEPENDENT POWER PRODUCERS,
  5. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS
  6. ELECTRICAL MATERIAL PROVIDERS (those importing, manufacturing, and selling electrical equipment such as cables and meters)
  7. Water
  8. SIERRA LEONE WATER COMPANY (SALWACO)
  9. GUMA VALLEY WATER COMPANY (GVWC)
  10. PACKAGED WATER PRODUCERS
  11. PLUMBERS or WATER RELATED TECHNICIANS
  12. WATER RELATED MATERIALS PROVIDERS (those importing, manufacturing, and selling electrical equipment such as cables and meters
