SLEWRC presents draft electricity main grid and water sector regulatory instruments to the Ministry of Energy

The Chairman of the Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) Mohamed Seisay has on Monday 7th January 2019 presented a total of 12 draft regulatory instruments to the Minister of Energy Alhaji Kanja Sesay. The regulations which were put together with support from the AARC consultants under the MCC Threshold Program for Sierra Leone. These instruments are aimed at providing guidelines for service providers to improve the quality of supply of electricity services. They also include punitive measures for non- compliance with the standards for providing these essential services.

In receiving the documents, the Minister stated that he considered the work of the Commission to be very important hence the institution is held in very high esteem by the Ministry in consideration of the vital role that the Commission plays in the sector. He expressed concerns for the justifications of the current tariff system in the sector and was hopefully that the regulations would address these concerns. He pledged his Ministry’s support to the public consultation process of the draft regulations which the Commission intends to roll out in the coming weeks and assured the Commission that his Ministry will carry out a thorough technical review of the draft regulations and submit its feedback to the Commission.
