The public engagement sessions took place at the Sierra Leone National Stadium Hostel on the 6th, 7th, 13th & 15th October, 2020 respectively. Presentations were made by the staff of the Commission on the various approved regulations which include but not limited to the Electricity & Water Licence Regulation, Electricity & Water Service Provider Reporting Rules, and Tariff Rules & Uniform System of Accounting, Electricity & Water-Complaint Handling Procedures Regulations, Water Quality of Supply Regulations, Electricity Distribution & Supply-Consumer Service Regulation, Electricity Quality of Supply Regulations, Certification-Water Supply Industry Professionals Rules, Bottled & Sachet Water Production Regulations, and Captive Electricity Generation Permit Rules amongst other key regulations.
Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions, make comments or ask for clarifications where necessary at the end of each presentation. Max Jalloh, Public Relations Officer for the Sierra Leone Pure and Bottled Water Organization stated that the engagement was very much necessary as participants were better informed of the provisions to ensure the delivery of quality service and the consequences for non-compliance. According to Ing. Kadiatu Nicholas who represented the EGTC, she stated that it was clear that the Commission is well capacitated to regulate these public utilities under its regulatory purview.
In her vote of thanks, Director of Consumer and Public Affairs Ngozi Obi Sesay stated that the event was a notable milestone for the SLEWRC and went on to give a brief history of the drafting, public consultations and public relations stages in the development of the regulations. She thanked the MCCU for its technical support and all sector utilities for having being supportive during the various stages of developing the regulations as according to her, their inputs informed the final versions of the regulations. She ended by thanking the Management and staff of the Commission for their tireless work in putting together the regulations and for organizing what she termed as a well put together event.
